From January 1 to June 30, 2012, Denmark holds the six-month rotating Presidency of the European Union. It is the seventh time Denmark holds the EU Presidency since joining the European Community in 1973. With the euro debt crisis, Denish EU Presidency coincides with one of the most difficult moments in the EU's history. The four fundamental priorities for the Danish Presidency are a responsible, dynamic, green a safe Europe. Moreover, Danes hope to move forward on issues such as improving the EU's environmental standards and making progress in negotiations on the 2014-2020 European budget.
