Germany's EU Presidency
2020
From 1 July to 31 December 2020, Germany is holding the six-month rotating Presidency of the European Union. Germany is working closely with the two upcoming Trio EU Presidencies of Portugal (January-June 2021) and Slovenia (July-December 2021).
The priorities of Germany's presidency are driven by its motto: "Together for Europe’s recovery". The presidency is focusing directly on overcoming the COVID-19 crisis by fighting the spread of the virus, supporting the European economy to recover, and reinforcing social cohesion in Europe. Another key milestone of the presidency has been the elaboration of the New Leipzig Charter, officially endorsed during the informal meeting of the Ministers responsible for urban matters on 30 November 2020.
