14 November 2017
The EUKN organised a Policy Lab in Prague on the topic of Urban Mobility on the 14th November 2017. It is the second Czech Policy Lab focused on this topic. It was organised with EUKN Czech focal point, namely the Ministry of Regional Development. Two international experts were invited: Nuno Pinto from Manchester University and Teemu Surakka from Aalto University.
Czech Republic is the coordinator of the Urban Mobility Partnership, established in October 2016 as part of the Urban Agenda for the EU. Therefore, Czech Republic is highly committed to developing the Action Plan. In this regard, the goal of this Policy Lab is to support Czech Republic by bringing external expertise on the topic of urban mobility.
Mr David Koppitz set the scene by introducing the current state of affairs of the Urban Mobility Partnership which is in the process of drafting the Final Action Plan. Two key concepts were thoroughly discussed by Nuno Pinto, on Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs) and by Teemu Surakka, on Mobility as a Service (MaaS). The workshop session was divided into two parts: discussing the main challenges of SUMPs and MaaS; and providing possible solutions to overcome those challenges.
This Policy Lab should act as a primary tool through which local and national authorities could start shaping the new European mobility. It also gives the right initial response to the defined challenges, especially regarding the EU Urban Agenda Partnership on Urban Mobility.
