EUKN Policy Lab report "Integrated urban planning and the use of ITIs" is now available online

On 9 November 2018, the EUKN organised a Policy Lab for its member the Czech Republic on the strategic urban planning. The theme of the meeting was integrated urban planning in Europe and the use of Integrated Territorial Investments (ITI) in particular.

ITIs are an increasingly important instrument of the EU Cohesion policy to support sustainable urban development. The Policy Lab discussed various examples of strategic urban development in cities and metropolitan regions and of their use of ITIs.

A wide variety of experts from the European Policies Research Centre-UK, Bureau Stedelijke Planning-NL, ITI Wrocław Functional Area-PL, Ministry of Regional Development-CZ, ITI Brno-CZ, ITI Hradec-CZ, and ITI Ostrava-CZ took place in the seminar.

After presentations and the panel discussion, the meeting concluded that the availability of European funding should not be the main driver for strategic urban development. Projects should start with a vision and a well-thought strategic plan to be implemented in close cooperation with all key actors involved, including the private sector and civil society.
