Policy Lab: Retail Planning and the Functional Urban Area, Cyprus

On December 15, the EUKN organised its last Policy Lab of 2017 for its member Cyprus. The Department of Town Planning and Housing of Cyprus and the EUKN Secretariat met in Nicosia to discuss the Functional Urban Area.

During the Policy Lab, the potentials for a contemporary retail policy for Cyprus were debated. The participants discussed suitable policy instruments based on best practices. By implementing these policy instruments, Cyprus seeks to tackle the urban sprawl and maintain local economies.

The topic is complex because of cross-linkages between mobility/transport and retail policy, and the requirement of detailed retail market data. By means of this Policy Lab, the EUKN provided the first step for policy revision. EUKN will continue to address this issue in future events in Cyprus.
